Why do we need a Board Development Policy?
In order for the organization to achieve its mission, it has to have a strong and healthy board. Board dysfunction is one of the biggest detractors from mission work. A healthy board will make a big difference toward achieving the mission if its selected, managed, and evaluated effectively.
PLUS, we are routinely audited by the City to gauge whether board governance best practices are being followed. This policy gives you the tools you need to build a healthy board and meet these audit requirements:
- Board Members duties and job descriptions are clear
- Board development plan (recruitment)
- Board has a strategic plan
- Board training that includes: board roles & fiscal responsibilities
